Free Speech and the Maine Christian Civic League

http://torsrants.blogspot.com [Tor's Rants] It's only coincidental that the vote on the proposed amendment and Maine's primary vote are happening about the same time. The fact that the CCL would not be allowed to run their ad under the current election laws shows the great potential for politicians to abuse the laws.

Colorado Governor Signs Security Breach Notification Law

State Action Bloghttp://www.stateaction.org/blog [State Action Blog] Rosemary Marshall, an anti-identity theft measure similar to CPA’s model Security Breach Notification Act.  The bill requires individuals and commercial entities to notify individuals any time their personal data–including Social Security numbers, driver’s license information, or passwords to financial accounts–has been lost or stolen.  For more information, read CPA’s Identity Theft policy brief and model legislation.

Homosexual Student Expelled from Baptist College

http://www.acsblog.org [ ACSBlog: The Blog of the American Constitution Society] Jason Johnson, a Sophmore at the Baptist-affiliated University of the Cumberlands, was expelled from school last week after university administrators discovered Johnson's profile on Myspace.com in which he talked openly about being a homosexual. The 2005-06 University Handbook states, "Any student who engages in or promotes sexual behavior not consistent with Christian principles (including sex outside marriage and homosexuality) may be suspended or asked to withdraw from the University of the Cumberlands." Yet, when Johnson enrolled at the University in 2004 the handbook only prohibited "lewd and indecent conduct."
