Federal Bureau of Investigation - The Detroit Division: Department ...

[ExcitingAds! FBI News] Davis commended the Holloway investigation and prosecution, noting that its success was the result of a cooperative effort between the Wyoming Police Department and the Secret Service that led to the destruction of the long-running fraud scheme, a scheme that lasted as long as it did because it spread its activities across many different states, which made it more difficult to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. Davis also noted that his office is in the process of establishing an Identity Theft Working Group, with the participation of numerous Federal law enforcement agencies, including the Secret Service, the FBI, U.S. ICE, and others, along with the Michigan State Police and numerous Sheriff’s and Police Departments, that will focus on investigating and prosecuting identity theft and related financial frauds.

Schneier on Security: Plant Security Countermeasures

[Schneier on Security] “They are very good at avoiding getting eaten,” said Linda Walling of the University of California, Riverside. “It’s an unusual situation where insects can overcome those defenses.” At the smallest nip to its leaves, specialized cells on the plant’s surface release chemicals to irritate the predator or sticky goo to entrap it.

Facebook's Privacy Policy Produces Plea to FTC

[Andy Beal's Marketing Pilgrim] I think the big problem for Facebook is people posted information/data under previous understood levels of privacy that Facebook decided to change after the fact. [Comment is free: Henry Porter's blog | guardian.co.uk] This is a very delicate area, but my feeling is that the privacy laws being made on the back of the HRA underline problems with the act because it guarantees nothing upfront but instead requires people to go to law to establish their rights. It would be much more effective to create a proper body of privacy legislation that specifies acts that illegally damage or compromise a person's privacy, and this would apply to the state, the press and the big corporations that gather and store personal details.
