Global Security Watch > Tenable Network Security: Airport Security: Don't Make The Same ...

[Tenable Network Security] Those of us who travel through any U.S. airport are used to the inconvenience of airport security - the long lines, metal detectors, having to take off your shoes, belts, earrings, and of course the ominous "liquids and gels" inspection. While most people accept these inconveniences as an unfortunate necessity, much of what has been implemented shares some of the common pitfalls found in many computer and network security programs.

If so, it still doesn’t excuse the TSA from not checking to see if the equipment is operational, but it would shift some of the blame to the PA’s airport managers and maintenance people for not keeping the surveillance cameras in working order.

[FREE MARKET FAIRY TALES] FREE MARKET FAIRY TALES: Airline Security 1: What we can learn ...: Of course, for travelers who have multiple visas from Yemen or Pakistan in their passports, look fidgety or distracted, become unnerved after the second question, try to buy a one-way ticket at the last minute with cash, show up with no luggage for an intercontinental journey, are wearing a heavy coat in summer, or display "attitude," it's likely to be a rather different story.

[Scared Monkeys] TSA: Newark Liberty International Airport Shut Down as Man Walked ...: We may want to start with the basics before we elaborate and completely inconvenience every law abiding, non-terrorist air passenger. Before we start preventing passengers from getting up from their seat an hour before landing and having a blanket in their lap, we might, call me crazy, want to be able to prevent individuals from entering through an exit.

Then consider her subsequent interviews in which she had to admit that it had ”˜failed miserably'.

More inconveniences, higher taxes and airport security fees, and a false sense of security.

[Pajamas Media] Pajamas Media » Profiling? Heavens, Not Us!: Now you keep your eyes open (the woman could be one of those crazy leftists who hate the West so intensely she could help islamists just like her predecessors helped Nazis) or someone could have placed a bomb in her luggage, but giving her the same amount of attention than to a the 7th century man is not only silly, it is alos counterproductive since the time spent on the woman should be better spent on the islamist sympathizer.

[News | The Independent UK] News | The Independent UK - Are planned airport scanners just a scam?: For all we know al Qaeda might have thought that the guy got lucky with someone who wasn't paying close enough attention, or was snuck in by some of their operatives in the airport. Also, the report about al Qaeda maybe having their own scanners to test what can and can't get though without being seen is not totally confirmed. In my opinion journalism like this is cheap and is doing more damage than it is helping.

[CNN Newsroom] CNN Newsroom: Blog Archive - Increased Airport Security « - Blogs ...: The truth of the matter is that there is really no need for increase in airport security measures only if the higher authorities concerned did their job such as the U.S. Embassy and the Department of State making it sure that ALL NAMES included in the terrorist list regardless of levels must have immediate background investigations and be restricted from flying or even acquiring passports. Best example is when the father of the December 25th suspect already reported his son's name to the U.S. Embassy on November 19, 2009, thereafter the Department of State was informed accordingly and yet it is apparent that the government agency concerned did not do whatever is necessary ASAP.

[The TSA Blog] The TSA Blog: DHS Statement on Northwest Airlines Flight 253: In fact, I agree that they are a form of security theater that will cause massive resentment and inconvenience and will not prevent or dissuade a terrorist from attempting another attack. What is interesting is how things have changed among the flying public: after 9/11, many people defended the now cancelled directives that required passengers to remain seated for the first 30 minutes after take off or before landing at Washington Reagan National Airport (obvious question: why not Dulles and Baltimore too?).
