[BambisMusings - Musings from a little deer?] The Boing Boing blog also has a plug, which says: “Randall Stross has a great op-ed in today’s New York Times about how Apple’s iPhone comes chock-full of DRM that will restrict your freedom and your consumer choice.”
Some related posts from Technorati and Google.
Concurring Opinions: Now, Nike+ is a pretty really cool idea (as Cory himself pointed out earlier). You put a chip in your running shoes, and a little doohickey on your iPod, and your iPod suddenly tells you your pace, distance, and so on. (via Cosmos)
Aehsos Output: I’ve no doubt that the iPhone is a major kick up the arse for the big mobile handset manufacturers (Nokia/SE/Motorola) but remember even if Apple sell 10million+ iPhones that is still only around 1% of the total mobile phone market. There is still lots of time for the big three to react. (via Cosmos)
Stupid Evil Bastard: Sacred cows make the tastiest hamburger.: Beware the iHandcuffs - NYT.com">op-ed in today’s New York Times about how Apple’s iPhone comes chock-full of DRM that will restrict your freedom and your consumer choice. He makes the great point that although Apple claims it adds its DRM (which locks you into buying Apple products) at the behest of the music industry, that many of the copyright holders whose work Apple sells in the music store have asked it to switch off the DRM. The OPLIN 4cast: A new idea called Slow Library is beginning to gain some attention on library blogs. The basic concept is to apply some of the principles and philosophies behind the Slow Food and open source movements to the world of library services. (via Cosmos)
304: No Mod Required: "It's ironic that a company whose name is synonymous with "Switch" has built its entire product strategy around lock-in. The iTunes/iPhone/iPod combo is a roach-motel: customers check in, but they can't check out." (via Cosmos)
Tech's remarks: "Switch" has built its entire product strategy around lock-in. The iTunes/iPhone/iPod combo is a roach-motel: customers check in, but they can't check out. (via Cosmos)
Zorba the Hutt: If the populace anger and retaliation level doesn't escalate at a quick enough pace (say, within a year to a year and a half), then shit like Apple and Cingular are doing with the iPhone will become a popular industry standard and an accepted way for companies to treat their potential consumers.
